Downhill National Series Rd 1 - Adelaide - Jan 2014 [1st Place]

Words from the proud dad himself, Tim Butler... “We headed to Adelaide for the first round of the National DH. Traveling in 46 degrees the Kids didn't complain about being stuck in the car for 10 hours. First day of practice only the competitors, guardians and officials were allowed into Eagle Park due to the 44 degrees and total fire ban. David Maggs and Pat spent the day practicing a great track with varied soil types while we tried to keep fluids and electrolytes into them. At about 5pm a strong southerly came in and instantly dropping the temp by 20 degrees. Saturday on arrival to the park there was a mist across the hill and everyone was wearing jumpers, today was practice and seeding. Pat seeded first. With a fairly clean run Qualifying fastest by 13 seconds, David came down in 2 minutes and twenty seconds, which was pretty good after coming back from a shoulder injury. Sunday Pat only did a couple of practice runs hoping not to hurt himself. Race run came and Pat kept his cool even with his main rival playing mind games in the gate.  Pat had a clean run only nearly losing his front wheel right in front of me but managed to gather it up to take the win by nearly 5 seconds coming down at 2:25.34. Maggsie came down for his race run, absolutely flying, nailing a line we were working on in practice but carried too much speed into the next corner washing the front wheel and laying it over, jumping back on the bike finishing 19th but only 0.11 seconds slower than his seeding time.  Pat is wrapped with his bike, he said the cornering and pedal efficiency is brilliant and can't wait to get to Mt Buller for the next round.”
